DDG has kept his fans fed all summer long with loose cuts like “Lusted,” “Midwest Flow,” and “No Kizzy.” He now returns with his latest single “If I Go Broke,” which is accompanied by a visual as well. The new Carrington-directed clips shows DDG pulling up to a group of people and generously offering them some food he bought for them. To match his visual message, DDG’s verse and hook portrays his reflective thoughts about who will be there for him if he didn’t have his fame and fortune:
I was just praying for this spot, that I’m in now/ I had to get it on my own, with no handouts/ It took some time and some work, but I’m the man now/ I feel like I’m growin’ up, I’m buying land now, tryna get, tr-tryna get that ownership/ They see that I got mains, so they assume that I’m loaning it
If I go broke, who gon’ help me? Who gon’ feed me? If I didn’t had no money would she leave me?/ They gon’ leave me when I’m down, not when I’m up, they just wanna see me lose, but they get no luck/ They just wanna see me snoozе, but I sleep enough
DDG joined his fellow peers a few months ago as he landed a slot on the XXL Freshmen list for 2021. Since then, he’s kept his momentum going strong shortly after that, dropping off visuals for tracks like “No Kizzy” and joining 2KBABY for “Zack & Cody.”
Back in March, DDG tapped in with super-producer OG Parker to be his co-pilot for a joint EP titled Die 4 Respect. The project was preceded by singles like “Money Long” and “Rule #1” with Yachty, and he continued the momentum by dropping off the official visual for the Coi Leray-assisted “Impatient” and the Tyla Yaweh-assisted “Hakuna Matata.” D4L is equipped with 11 songs and a dope roster of features from names like Coi Leray, YoungBoy NBA, PnB Rock, and more.
