Kevin Abstract has teamed up with Ryan Beatty for his latest single “Sierra Nights.” The song is accompanied by an official video that is described as an “ode to the end of summer.” The visual cleverly opens up with a scene of Abstract on an old TV screen before it follows Abstract and Beatty hanging out in Southern California while Kevin delivers his lyrics:
Been laid off work a Texas boy, I was dreaming of LA/ We was dripping off candy paint, blow the speakers out, yeah, yeah, yeah/ Shoot my own movie with my n***as now, five bedroom, most of us was sleeping on the couch
Bring them drugs in, I was dressed up like McLovin, eating Mickey D’s every day, n***a, I loved it/ Had some shit to say, so I said it out in public, should’ve told my n***as all the shit that I was struggling with/ All I wanna do is run it up, all I wanna do is get my money up
Last month, Kevin Abstract made his solo return when he recruited $NOT and slowthai for his latest single “SLUGGER.” Abstract co-produced it with Al Hug and fellow Brockhampton member Romil Hemnani, and also made sure the release was paired with a visual as well. The last full-length solo project we’ve received from Kevin Abstract was 2019’s ARIZONA BABY, and before that was 2016’s American Boyfriend: A Suburban Love Story.
In a recent conversation from earlier this year, Abstract spoke about his desire to make sure his presence leaves an impact. “I’m in the same mindset, with that same hunger from 2017. I’m just always trying to lead by example and let my existence do as much as possible, really. Whether it’s talking to you, or saying certain things in my music, or doing a video that I feel can help a kid come to terms with themselves, whatever it is.”
