Lil Baby is plotting his return. On Thursday (Aug. 19), the Atlanta-bred rapper sent fans into a frenzy after revealing he’s preparing to release new music.
“New music soon,” Lil Baby wrote on Twitter.
The news was quickly met with excitement from fans, especially since Lil Baby recently revealed he’s got another collaboration with Drake on the way. As reported by REVOLT, the 26-year-old announced last week that he’s been working on a “slow song” with the Toronto-born star.
“I done went to the studio like two times. I ain’t feel it yet, but it’s like a slow song,” he said. “It takes me longer to rap cause, like, I don’t really care what I say on a song. You feel me? I just freestyle, but with Drake, I be trying to think about it.”
Lil Baby further explained that working with Drake has challenged him to level up his songwriting skills rather than recording tracks off the dome.
“… That’s what makes it harder for me cause, like, I’m thinking. When I don’t even think, I just rap,” he said. “So then like, cause it’s Drake, I get kind of like, damn… So I gotta make sure.”
Drake’s influence will even be felt on Lil Baby’s next album, he revealed.
“My next album, I’m writing it. Every song, I’m writing it,” he said. “So, it’s gonna be more detailed. Right now, I freestyle, so only the top of my brain comes out.”
Drake and Lil Baby previously joined forces for their chart hit “Wants and Needs.” The March track helped Drizzy make Billboard history after it debuted at No. 2 on the Hot 100. At the time, Drake’s songs “What’s Next” and “Lemon Pepper Freestyle” featuring Rick Ross debuted at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively, making him the first artist to have three songs debut in the Hot 100’s Top 3 spots.
Lil Baby, meanwhile, recently celebrated his own sales achievement. The rapper’s protest anthem “The Bigger Picture” was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry of America earlier this month.
