Twitter reacts to OnlyFans banning pornography

“OnlyFans banning sex content is like KFC not selling chicken no more,” tweeted one person.

OnlyFans, a digital platform where users can make adult-oriented subscription fan pages, has announced it will ban pornography beginning in the fall, according to Variety.

In a statement to the outlet, OnlyFans said that starting Oct. 1, 2021, the company “will prohibit the posting of any content containing sexually explicit conduct. In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of the platform, and to continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines.”

Individuals will still be allowed to post content with nudity “as long as it is consistent with our Acceptable Use Policy.”

Social media users had mixed reactions to the news. While some people made jokes about users on OnlyFans having to find new employment, others said that the popular app’s new regulations will cause the company to self-destruct.

Twitter user @rgay wrote, “I don’t understand what Only Fans thinks people will look at on their app if they ban sex work. Tumblr banned pornography and killed the site. Payment processors trying to dictate morality is… ridiculous.”

Only Fans creators in the lift to their $10,000 a month Miami apartment after hearing that sexually explicit content is getting banned,” tweeted @_Tom_Henderson_, along with a video of a man in distress in an elevator.

Twitter user @Skweezy tweeted, “HOW TF IS ONLY FANS BANNIN PORN?? OF GETTIN RID OF PORN IS LIKE DOLLAR TREE GETTIN RID OF DOLLAR ITEMS. LIKE WTF YALL EVEN GONNA SELL? THEY GONNA HAVE 2 CHANGE THEIR NAME 2 ONLYFAN CAUSE THEY ONLY GONNA HAVE 1 LEFT.”

“Only fans banning explicit content,” wrote @Drebae_. “Girl people not on there to see cooking & infomercials? It’s an attack on the workers. Cause what was the reason???”

Social media user @javrawr captioned a video of someone stamping a stack of papers with, “Strip clubs processing dancer applications after Only Fans shuts down.”
