Three 6 Mafia vs. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony?! Is the battle finally on the way?

It has been over a year since the Verzuz battle between Three 6 Mafia and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony was teased. However, on Monday (August 16), DJ Paul sent a subtle message via Instagram hinting that the battle might be back on.

He posted a screenshot of what looked like a video chat between himself, Swizz Beatz, Grady Spivey, and Krayzie Bone with the caption, “What are we discussing?”

The answer seems obvious considering Swizz Beatz is the co-founder of Verzuz, Grady Spivey is Triller’s VP of Entertainment Strategy, and Krayzie Bone himself was in the conversation. But, fans still took some time to troll Paul in the comment section. Some fans guessed that the four men were debating “who makes the best BBQ.” Others jokingly speculated that they were discussing whether Publix fried chicken was better than Bojangles. Of course, most of the discourse in the comment section came from fans who were hoping the group was making plans to finally announce a confirmed Verzuz battle with one commenter saying, “Better be that got dam…verzuz battle!!!!”

According to Paul in an HNHH interview, he and Krazyie Bone were planning to do an independent Verzuz-like battle on Paul’s Instagram live before Timbaland and Swizz stepped in to stop the event only half an hour before they went live, claiming that the two rappers should save their bars for the Verzuz battle. Paul expressed his uncertainty because he was unsure if and when the Verzuz was actually going to happen. After their independently organized head-to-head was cancelled, DJ Paul claimed that Krayzie Bone backed out after someone close to Swizz Beatz dissuaded the Bone Thugs rapper from participating. However, the Cleveland native eventually made his own statement via Twitter claiming he was not interested in participating because of the “temperature of what was going on in the world.” At that time, the United States had just entered into the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic and the beginning of a reckoning with systemic racism was upon us.

Paul seemed hurt by the cancellation of the event at the time, but assured everyone that he still appreciated Timbaland and Swizz Beatz.

“I was talking to [Verzuz] and they kept telling me they was gonna do it, man,” he said. “Then, they just ended up changin’ they mind. It’s like, I don’t know why they came in just to stop our thing and then didn’t wanna do it. But whatever, I still got love for Swizz [Beatz] and Timbaland. Love you guys to death.”

There are no details yet on when the two emcees will face off, but fans will be waiting! Check out the teasing post Paul posted below.
