Beyoncé’s family is mourning the loss of Craig Adams, the singer’s former personal trainer and Destiny’s Child bodyguard who sadly passed away from COVID-19 earlier this week. Bey’s mother Tina Knowles-Lawson revealed the news in an Instagram post on Thursday (Aug. 12) and said Adams was “like a family member” to the Knowles.

“I am heartbroken this morning. I found out this morning that this amazing human being Craig Adams from Houston passed away last night from Covid,” Knowles-Lawson captioned a photo of Adams.

The 67-year-old further said the deadly virus “attacked” Adams’ organs and lungs, causing him to suffer kidney failure. Adams tragically succumbed to Coronavirus on Wednesday night (Aug. 11).

“Craig was a fitness trainer and was healthy!” Knowles-Lawson added. “This is only the latest of many friends and family that were lost to Covid. Craig was Beyoncé’s trainer and later security for Destiny’s Child! He was like a family member. Such a beautiful human being, kind, loving and gentle. RIP Craig we love you!”

On Wednesday, local news outlet KHOU reported that the Houston Methodist Hospital is running out of available hospital beds as the city sees an increase in COVID-19 cases, particularly due to the fast-spreading Delta variant. According to a Houston Methodist memo, 97 percent of those sick with COVID-19 at the hospital’s eight locations are suffering from the variant. Of those ill, 82 percent are unvaccinated.

Last year, Beyoncé’s family provided free Coronavirus testing kits, household supplies and personal protective equipment to those in the Houston area. The charitable drive occurred via the Grammy-winning star’s BeyGOOD Foundation, which she recently discussed in her Harper’s Bazaar cover feature.

“In 2013, I started BeyGOOD to share the mentality that we could all do something to help others, something my parents instilled in me from a young age — to inspire others to be kind, to be charitable and to be good,” Beyoncé told the outlet. See her mother’s post about Adams below.
