Less than two weeks after Biz Markie left the world, the star and his timeless records have made their way onto Billboard charts. On Tuesday (July 27), it was reported that streams for the late star increased, landing him positions on a couple of music lists.

According to the Billboard Charts Twitter account, Biz’s 1994 compilation album Biz’s Baddest Beats debuted at No. 2 on the Comedy Albums chart, coming directly behind Inside (The Songs) by Bo Burnham. Furthermore, the rapper’s most notable hit “Just A Friend” also made its reentry onto a Billboard chart. After 5,000 downloads — a 2,991 percent jump from last week — the song is now No. 18 on this week’s Digital Song Sales list.

Biz was hospitalized last year for severe complications from Type 2 diabetes. Doug E. Fresh, Big Daddy Kane and Treach regularly checked in on his health, but Fat Joe spoke to Biz’s family every week, offering to pay medical costs and providing emotional support until the very end. The late emcee passed away surrounded by hospital staff and loved ones, including his wife and family members. Moments later, his manager confirmed the news to the media.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce, this evening, with his wife Tara by his side, Hip Hop pioneer Biz Markie peacefully passed away,” she said in a statement. “We are grateful for the many calls and prayers of support that we have received during this difficult time. Biz created a legacy of artistry that will forever be celebrated by his industry peers and his beloved fans whose lives he was able to touch through music, spanning over 35 years.”

Some of those friends and collaborators immediately mourned the loss of the rap pioneer with heartfelt messages.

“Rest in power Biz..I love you bro. @officialbizmarkie,” LL Cool J wrote in an Instagram post. Mario, who sampled the rapper’s hit on “Just A Friend 2002,” told Billboard that Biz “was passionate about everything in the present and made sure everybody around knew how much love he had for you.”

“He will forever live through my journey in music,” Mario added.
