The Chicago community once again mourns the death of another local rapper.

According to a report the Chicago Tribune published on Sunday (July 11), Londre Sylvester, known by his rap name KTS Dre, was shot as many as 64 times after he was released from Cook County Jail on Saturday night. The shooting took place on the 2700 block of West 27th Street in Little Village at 8:50 p.m. After being shot, Dre was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he is said to have died at 9:25. He was only 31.

The report says that two women who were at the scene were also shot. One is a 60-year-old who was with Dre at the time of the shooting. She was shot in the knee before being taken to Stroger Hospital and left in “good condition. The other was a 30-year-old who was walking around the scene at the time. She was grazed in the mouth and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, and she’s currently also in good condition.

Police say that Dre and the woman were walking “to an awaiting vehicle when several unknown (suspects) exited two separate vehicles and all began to shoot in Sylvester’s direction, striking him numerous times.” They also say Dre appeared to be the intended target in this shooting. After they were done firing shots, the suspects got back into their vehicles and drove in different directions. Police will use the nearby surveillance cameras as they work on this case.

Dre had been in jail after prosecutors hit him with a petition and accused him of violating the conditions of his release for a 2020 felony gun charge. On July 1, he was held on $50,000 bail, and he was able to post $5,000 of that last Friday. He was killed right across the street from the jail.

The death of KTS Dre is the latest in a tragically long string of Chicago rappers who were murdered. Last November, King Von was shot and killed in Atlanta after being in a confrontation with Quando Rondo. One of Rondo’s associates fired the lethal shot that night.

Months before the death of Von, FBG Duck was shot and killed in Chicago. Several months after Duck’s death, his own cousin was also killed in a shooting.
