50 Cent is planning his own hip hop competition series called “Unrapped,” Deadline reported on Wednesday (July 7). The show is currently in development at ABC in partnership with 50’s G-Unit Film & Television.

According to Deadline, “Unrapped” will be an unscripted series where celebrity contestants, who are coached by “iconic hip-hop mentors,” battle it out in a competitive format until a winner is crowned. Casting for the show is reportedly underway.

“I am excited to expand my relationship with ABC,” 50 told Deadline. “‘Unrapped’ brings G-Unit Film & Television’s ability to put incredible music and musical talent on screen to the competition space.”

On Instagram, he added about the series: “This is gonna be so cool. Think Hip Hop’s ‘American Idol’ on ABC. Green Light Gang.”

50 will executive produce the show along with Antonio Collier, Jon Sheinberg, Susie Ursitti Sheinberg, Gwen Osborne and Matt Feige; while G-Unit Film & Television co-produces with SFO Entertainment.

“Unrapped” will also mark a return to reality TV for 50, who last shared “Dream School,” a reality series about high school dropouts being taught by celebrities, back in 2013. The show is just the latest television and film project for the rap mogul, who is also currently developing Let Me Hear a Rhyme for Peacock, “Confessions of a Crime Queen” for Discovery+ and his “Black Mafia Family” series for Starz.

50 announced “Confessions of a Crime Queen,” a true-crime anthology series about female criminal masterminds, back in May after moving to Houston.

“I Love NY, but I live in Houston now,” he said on social media at the time. “I’ll explain later. Green Light Gang BOOM.”

Later, Deadline reported that the 46-year-old and his G-Unit Film & Television teamed up with Discovery+ to air “Confessions of a Crime Queen” in 2022.

So far, a premiere date for “Unrapped” has not been announced. See 50’s post about the upcoming show on Instagram below.
