Back in April, Lil Yachty dropped the midwest-oriented body of work Michigan Boy Boat, which saw him collaborating with the likes of Tee Grizzley, Veeze, Louie Ray, Icewear Vezzo, Rio Da Yung OG, YN Jay, Sada Baby, and Babyface Ray over 14 tracks. Presumably looking to switch things up a bit, the Atlanta star has now followed the more hard-hitting Michigan Boy Boat with a new single titled “Love Music,” an emo-pop effort that sees production from David LoneStarr and fits in perfectly with the teeny bop crowd in regards to both its overall sound and subject matter about, well, love:

“At the school dance, no, no, no, we’re just friends, hope that we can be more, I dreamed of you last night, you had on a big old gown and a wedding ring, you were my wife, baby, you were my wife, baby, you run my life, I don’t know where we will stand if we do not dance, you are my type, baby, you are my type…”

Just after “Love Music” was released, Lil Yachty took to social media to reveal that the release was a way to gauge his audience:

Prior to Michigan Boy Beat, Yachty dropped off his fourth studio album Lil Boat 3, which made landfall May 2020 and saw a wealth of assists from A$AP Rocky, Future, Tierra Whack, DaBaby, Drake, Young Thug, Lil Durk, and more over 19 cuts. Months later, fans would get a deluxe edition of Lil Boat 3 — titled Lil Boat 3.5 — that added on eight additional songs and collaborations alongside Playboi Carti, Lil Baby, and Vince Staples, among others. Given “Love Music” and the recently leaked “Fuck Up My Flow,” it’s possible that a new, more melodic album from Yachty lies somewhere nearby.

Enjoy Lil Yachty’s “Love Music.”
