When the clock strikes midnight, Migos will release the third and final chapter of their well-received Culture series, which is led by the singles “Need It” with YoungBoy Never Broke Again, “Racks 2 Skinny,” “Give No Fxk” with Travis Scott and Young Thug, and — most recently — the hard-hitting track “Straightenin.” Just before the album touches down, fans get one more drop in the form of “Avalanche,” a Quavo and DJ Durel-produced effort that sees the North Atlanta trio rapping about their humble upbringings, current successes, rockstar lifestyles, and more:
“Papa was a rollin’ stone, but now I got rollin’ stones in the bezel, mama at home all alone, hustlin’, tryna keep this shit together, young niggas smokin’ on gas, I’m livin’ too fast, my foot on the pedal, if I got back to the past, my niggas ain’t know we’d be rockin’ Coachella…”
Migos’ first installment of Culture made landfall back in 2017, and saw 13 cuts with additional appearances from DJ Khaled, Scott, 2 Chainz, Gucci Mane, and Lil Uzi Vert — the last of whom appeared on the album’s breakout multi-Platinum hit “Bad and Bougee.” Culture was also Migos’ first number one on the Billboard 200 thanks to 131,000 first-week units sold. The following year, they continued to hold court with Culture II, a 24-track body of work led by singles like “Walk It, Talk It” with Drake, “Narcos,” “Stir Fry,” and “MotorSport,” an intentionally controversial offering thanks to Nicki Minaj and Cardi B. To the surprise of no one, Culture II also landed Migos at the top of the aforementioned chart via 199,000 units sold. Given all of this, it’s probably a safe bet to expect the same results from the highly anticipated Culture III.
Until that time arrives, you can reminisce with Migos on “Avalanche.”
