DMX’s daughter’s rendition of “Slippin’” was one of the highlights of the iconic rapper’s public “Celebration of Life.”

The rap, performed by 8-year-old Sonovah Hillman Jr., was heartfelt, special and may help boost her career as a promising young rapper in hip hop.

Hillman was recently interviewed by NBC’s Dallas Fort Worth affiliate. She told the broadcast station that she is currently working on 20 songs and has released two of them. “I Hate Zoom” dropped in January and her latest track “TikTok Kid” was released with a music video on Saturday (May 8).

Rapping makes the Oakland-native feel powerful. Producers have asked her to join her dad on two songs off his posthumous album. During his interview on “Drink Champs,” X spoke about several features — including Pop Smoke, Lil Wayne, Griselda and Bono — but didn’t mention his daughter.

Similar to her father, Hillman writes all her rap lyrics. “Whatever is on my mind, I just write about it,” Hillman said.

Her mother, Sonovah Hillman, says her daughter resembles her father and shares many of his traits. “Sometimes she looks just like him depending on the angle you catch her,” she said. “She has a lot of his traits as far as an artist. Writing is easy for her.”

The day before her father’s death was announced, Hillman shared a photo of her in front of the School St. project building her father grew up in. She captioned the picture, “We took this picture in the same spot. I’m walking in your footsteps. I love you dad.”

Hillman is definitely a fan of her father’s work. Before he died, she let him know how much he inspired her. “My favorite song of his is ‘Party Up (Up in Here).’ He was happy when I told him I wanted to rap,” Hillman said.

One of her favorite moments with her Dad was a beach trip in Miami in February. “It was fun. I just miss him and I’m kind of sad we won’t have more memories,” Hillman. said.
