Angela Moore, the foster mother of 16-year-old Ma’Khia Bryant, has revealed what caused the fight that led to her tragic death.

In an interview with CNN, Moore said that the argument began because the girls were arguing about cleaning the house. She said that when two of her former foster care children came to Columbus, Ohio on Tuesday (April 20) to celebrate her birthday, the women began arguing with Bryant over the house being unclean.

“It was over keeping the house clean,” she said. “The older one told them to clean up the house because ‘Mom doesn’t like the house dirty.’ So, that’s how it all started.”

Moore said Bryant, who was only a resident at the foster home for a couple of months, replied, “You’re not the guardian of me.”

“They argue all the time,” the foster mom recalled, “but I never thought it would escalate like that.”

Bryant was later gunned down by Officer Nicholas Reardon. According to the teen’s aunt, the young girl called the police for help after the physical altercation with the two women at her foster home began. Bryant, who was armed with a knife for protection, was immediately shot when the officers arrived at the scene.

After news of the shooting spread throughout social media, Columbus police released some of the body cam footage from the incident, which showed the officer firing four shots into Bryant as she got into a scuffle with another person near a vehicle.

Paula, Bryant’s mother, wants her daughter to be remembered as a “beautiful” and “talented” girl. “I want the world to know that Ma’Khia was beautiful,” she said. “She had a sweet little voice. Oh my gosh, she was just so talented. She was … on the path to going many places, definitely.”

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation is looking into the shooting.
