Kim Potter, the former Brooklyn Center, Minnesota officer who fatally shot Daunte Wright, could be facing charges as early as tomorrow (April 14).

According to FOX 9, Washington County Attorney Pete Orput is reviewing the case and will have a decision soon. “BREAKING: Just [got] off phone with Washington Co Attorney Pete Orput,” tweeted reporter Paul Blume. “Orput tells me he is reviewing the #DaunteWright deadly police shooting case file right now & hopes to have charging decision TOMORROW.”

On Tuesday (April 13), Potter and Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon resigned from their positions. In the former cop’s resignation letter, she said she “loved every minute of being a police officer,” but did not address the shooting or issue any apology to Wright’s family.

On Sunday (April 11), Wright fatally shot in the chest during a traffic stop. Gannon says he was initially pulled dover because he had an expired registration on the vehicle. Officers then noticed the air fresheners hanging on his mirror, which was another violation. Authorities found out that there was an outstanding warrant for Wright and attempted to handcuff and arrest him, but he tried to get back into his vehicle. Potter, who is a 26-year veteran of the department and former president of the union, pulled her weapon and shot the young man. She claims she meant to shoot her taser instead of her firearm.

The Hennepin County medical examiner has ruled Wright’s death as a homicide, but added that the ruling “is not a legal determination of culpability or intent.”

On Tuesday (April 13), the parents of Wright made a tearful appearance on “Good Morning America” to discuss losing their son. “I lost my son, he’s never coming back,” Aubrey, Wright’s father, said. He also stated that he does not believe Potter’s excuse that she accidentally shot their son. “I can’t accept that — a mistake, that doesn’t even sound right,” he added. “This officer has been on the force for 26 years. I can’t accept that.”
