Houston rapper and activist Obe Noir was identified as the victim of a fatal shooting that took place on Monday (March 8).

According to ABC 13, the “Need To Know” emcee, whose real name Xavier Roberson, was gunned down in the middle of the street in Midtown. A Houston Police Department detective said witnesses heard gunshots and saw the victim running down the street. A car reportedly began circling around him and two suspects, identified as Black males, got out of the vehicle and shot him. The two men then fled the scene. A person in another vehicle found Roberson’s body on the street and called 911.

Roberson was most known for his work in the community, which he would often do alongside Houston rappers Trae Tha Truth and Cal Wayne. He was also close friends with George Floyd and the two grew up in the same neighborhood.

Trae took to Instagram to pay his condolences to his late friend after hearing the news. “Damn ….. Just lost My Niece Lyric Days ago, Now I just got the call bout you Zay,” he captioned the post. “U ain’t Deserve The way they done You….Rest Easy King …. @obenoir.”

Everybody always ask why I say you better than me, and you’ll fight it and say you wasn’t on that level yet, well you can’t argue with me now,” he captioned a slideshow of videos and photos of Roberson. “You rode that bid out with me, and you and @junebug_ghetto been with me since the beginning. I never saw this for you, not like this, I maybe can accept it more for someone else, but not you. My protegé, lil brother, family, my heart seriously fucked up.”
