On Sunday (Feb. 28), Tiger Woods made his first public statement since being injured in a serious car accident last week. The 11-time PGA Player of the Year shared his appreciation for his fellow golfers, who paid tribute to him by wearing his trademark Sunday uniform of a red shirt and black pants at the WGC-Workday Championship.

In a tweet, Woods called the tribute “touching” and thanked fans for their well wishes.

“It is hard to explain how touching today was when I turned on the TV and saw all the red shirts,” he wrote. “To every golfer and every fan, you are truly helping me get through this tough time.”

As reported by REVOLT, Woods suffered several injuries from Tuesday’s (Feb. 23) single-car crash, including damage to his lower right leg, foot and ankle.

“Mr. Woods suffered orthopedic injuries to his right lower extremity that were treated during emergency surgery. Comminuted open fractures affecting both the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula bones were stabilized by inserting a rod to the tibia,” Anish Mahajan, the chief medical officer and interim CEO at Harbor-UCLA, stated at the time.

Woods underwent a lengthy emergency surgery for his injuries and was relocated to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for “follow-up procedures,” where he currently remains.

On Friday (Feb. 26), his team reported that the surgery was successful and said Woods was “recovering and in good spirits.”

Tiger and his family want to thank you all for the wonderful support and messages they have received over the past few days,” a statement from his team read.

Prior to the severe crash, Woods was gearing up to participate in the Masters Tournament next month. His golfing future currently remains uncertain as he focuses on his recovery.
