The daughter of the late cop who allegedly penned a letter about Malcolm X’s assassination is speaking out. During a recent interview with Spectrum News NY1, Kelly Wood claimed the note was forged.

“I know that my father did not write this letter. I know that is not his signature, and I know the envelope they’re using to somehow justify that the letter was mailed is also a fake,” she said.

As previously reported by REVOLT, Malcolm X’s family disclosed a letter said to be written by Raymond Wood in his final moments. In the message, the former NYPD officer admitted to working undercover on the day Malcolm X was killed, noting he helped the FBI arrest the two security guards who were supposed to protect the activist at the Audubon Ballroom on the night he died.

“It was my assignment to draw the two men into a felonious federal crime, so that they could be arrested by the FBI and kept away from managing Malcolm X’s door security on Feb. 21, 1965,” the letter read. “… At that time, I was not aware that Malcolm X was the target.”

The former cop who hoped to exonerate Thomas Johnson —one of the men who was arrested and wrongfully convicted of X’s death — reportedly asked that his message be made public after his passing; his daughter Kelly claims that is far from the truth.

“If he had something to say, he would have said it when he was alive,” she said, noting her late father “would have never, ever asked anyone to speak on his behalf.

She added that her cousin Reginald Wood — who read the aforementioned letter alongside Malcolm X’s family — is seeking attention for his latest book.

Malcolm X was fatally shot in Manhattan in 1965. His family and attorney Benjamin Crump have demanded the re-opening of the investigation into his assassination.
