Back in 2018, the world lost one of its greatest talents with Mac Miller, who transitioned following a reported accidental overdose. A mere month prior, the Pittsburgh star released his fifth studio album Swimming, an absolute masterpiece that saw 13 tracks and production from the likes of J. Cole, Jon Brion, DJ Dahi, ID Labs, Cardo, and Tae Beast. The album was a more-than-moderate success, landing within the top three of the Billboard 200 thanks to 66,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release. While Swimming didn’t top that chart, Miller’s debut album Blue Slide Park did, becoming the first independent LP to do so since 1995.

This weekend, it’s been confirmed that Swimming has officially crossed the Platinum threshold, the first in his career. It’s a well-deserved moment for an artist who’s done so much for both hip hop and music in general in a short lifetime. As expected, many of his fans, peers, and news outlets alike took to social media to celebrate the accomplishment.

In addition to Swimming’s new achievement, this past month also saw the album standout “Self Care” achieve double Platinum status. The more recent body of work, Circles, also entered into Gold certification territory within the same time frame.

As previously reported by REVOLT, close collaborator Vince Staples gave his vantage point in regards to Miller’s health closer to his passing:

“He was trying. All you can ask for is for somebody to try. You can’t always win, you know? …  I never seen him dying … he was too happy. But to be honest, the good ones always die. So it makes sense in retrospect, but I was never worried about him. I was worried about him, but never, like, to that extreme.”

For the few that might’ve missed it, you can enjoy Mac Miller’s Swimming in its entirety below.
