When Bobby Shmurda was released from prison on Tuesday (Feb. 23), he rode home alongside his friend Quavo, who picked him up in a private jet. News of the gesture spread on social media, and while some applauded the Migos rapper for being a good friend, others questioned whether his support of the “Hot Nigga” emcee was genuine. It turns out the former was true.

Footage surfaced of Shmurda taking pictures on the day of his prison release. In one particular video, the “Bobby Bitch” star called Huncho over to pose for a picture despite the Atlanta emcee’s desires to keep the spotlight on him. When Quavo finally gave in and walked over, the Shmurda She Wrote star shared a few words about their friendship.

“This my brother right here, man,” said Shmurda. “He ain’t never switched up yo. The whole six he did. The whole time, man. He ain’t never switched up, you heard? Make sure you know that.”

Quavo shared the video to his page alongside a caption that addressed all those who accused him of using Shmurda’s release for clout. “Make Sure U Kno What’s Goin On!!” the “Workin Me” rapper tweeted. “Don’t Cap Or Need Clout Fa Nun. They Freed Tha Guys, Now We Back To Ballin. ShMigo Day 1 Shit.”

Quavo and Shmurda have been friends since their careers started taking off in 2014. They hung out often and recorded a few tracks that were said to be compiled in an unreleased ShMigo mixtape. The two maintained their friendship throughout Shmurda’s six-year sentence — a period in which the Migos rapper claims the Shmurdaville star remained solid.

“Did six and didn’t switch. Welcome home @realbobbyshmurdags9,” Quavo wrote on Instagram alongside video of Shmurda exiting a private jet. “Welcome home gang. Stayed down, we BACK UP!!” his Twitter caption read.
