Despite playing the lead role in the award-winning 2017 film Get Out, Daniel Kaluuya was never invited to its premiere. Kaluuya revealed the shocking news during a recent interview with Graham Norton.

At the time, Kaluuya was in Atlanta filming Black Panther. However, he told Norton, he cleared his schedule so that he could attend the Get Ou t premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.

“They didn’t invite me, bro. They didn’t invite me,” he told Norton. “On the Sundance world premiere, I was in Atlanta because I was shooting [Black] Panther. I was chilling. I cleared my schedule. I was like, ‘I really wanna do it.’”

However, Kaluuya said he “just didn’t get the invite” and instead spent the night in bed.

I wasn’t invited. So, I was just in my bed… someone texted me, [like,] ‘It’s done really well.’”

Kaluuya chalked the snub up to: “That’s the industry.” He added, “I don’t ask questions. You don’t wanna be in a place that you don’t feel wanted.”

A few weeks later, Kaluuya was seen attending a screening of the movie with his cast members. The award-winning actor — who nabbed 26 nominations for his Get Out performance — doesn’t hold any hard feelings against the film’s director and writer Jordan Peele, though.

According to Deadline, Kaluuya is currently in negotiations to co-star in Peele’s upcoming secret project. The outlet reports that the film will also star Keke Palmer and will be released under Universal Pictures. Peele will direct, write and produce the movie alongside director Ian Cooper, who hails from Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions company. Universal Pictures is expected to release the movie on July 22, 2022.

Elsewhere during his interview, Kaluuya touched on reports about a second Black Panther film.

“We’re gonna have to honor [Chadwick Boseman],” he said. “And give as much to his legacy as he gave to us.”
