Trae tha Truth and his Relief Gang organization have mobilized in Houston as residents struggle amidst the state’s winter storm emergency. The Houston-bred rapper and philanthropist was seen buying and delivering food to Texans who have been without power and water for days.

“Me and the team out here as we speak trying to purchase any food [and] collect any meals we can, so we can go out and give it to these families that have been without power for the past two, three days,” Trae said in an Instagram video.

Rolling blackouts across the state have caused many restaurants and grocery stores to shut down, making it difficult for Texans to restock on food.

On Wednesday (Feb. 17), Trae and his Houston-based Relief Gang, which launched during 2017’s Hurricane Harvey, purchased meals from Jack in the Box and open restaurants and delivered them to residents. The 40-year-old also urged other Texans to buy and distribute food if they’re able.

“Right now, it’s all about coming together,” he said. “All the homies that’s sitting around, that’s able, if you can go to some spot and grab 10, 15 burgers [or] sandwiches and get it to somebody who needs it… Man, I’m asking y’all to do that along with us.”

Trae’s Relief Gang partner, Houston producer and DJ Mr. Rogers, also bought and handed out generators to families in need around the city, as frigid temperatures have caused the items to be low in stock.

Trae concluded his Instagram video by slamming Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas’ handling of the historic crisis.

“As far as ERCOT and people in position all the way down to Gov. Abbott, y’all gon’ have to answer for this one,” he said. “We ain’t going that easy.”
