Andre Hill’s family has reacted to the charging decision made in the case of his death.

According to the Associated Press, Officer Adam Coy — the cop who fatally shot Hill — was indicted on murder and assault charges during a court appearance on Wednesday (Feb. 3). He was also charged with two counts of dereliction of duty in connection to the shooting.

The grand jury results reportedly brought smiles to members of the Hill family, but they are “not satisfied” with the charges.

“This is what’s supposed to happen when another person murders somebody,” Hill’s daughter, Karissa, said during a recent press conference. Attorney Benjamin Crump added that Hill’s family want Coy to be convicted on the indicted charges.

“Don’t get overjoyed or celebrate just because of the indictment,” he said. “We still expect, based on this evidence, for you to get a conviction. Let’s not celebrate this indictment as if it’s a conviction,” he continued, adding that the offer of a plea deal or anything less than a murder conviction would be “half-justice.”

Coy was one of two officers who reported to Hill’s home after receiving a nonemergency call about a vehicle parked on the road that was being turned on and off. Coy encountered Hill, who had been standing in his garage and holding a cellphone at the time, and shot him multiple times within 10 seconds. No immediate medical assistance was provided to Hill, according to footage of the incident.

Despite the recent indictments, the union representing Columbus police officers said Coy “will have the ability to present facts on his behalf at a trial just like any other citizen. At that time, we will see all the facts for the first time with the public as the process plays out.”

Coy plans to plead not guilty to all of the charges
