Kodak Black reflects on life behind bars with “Last Day In”

The newly freed Floridian rapper gets introspective.

Just before he left office, Donald Trump surprised many by lending an official pardon to Kodak Black (among others), which led to the embattled rapper’s eventual release from prison. Now said to be working on his new album, the Floridian star decided to bless his fans with a “first day out” track of sorts titled “Last Day In,” which is produced by LenoxBeatmaker, Luca Vialli, and Dyryk. As expected, the laid-back cut sees Kodak Black reflecting on both his life behind bars, as well as the problems that still lie ahead of him:

“Ducked off, we ain’t poppin’ out until they find a vaccine, yeah, I told my lawyer, “Boy, I love you like a daddy,” and I’ma catch a charge before I let them take advantage of me, I done came home so much, I already know they tired of me/

Ran up out of prison, I ain’t say bye to nobody, I want sushi, then some coochie, no more lunch trays, yeah, had to stop showin’ everybody where my mama stay, yeah, Trump just freed me, but my favorite president is on the money/”

Upon his release, Kodak Black took to social media to thank Trump for said pardon, alluding to an apparent commitment the ousted president had in regards to justice reform. He also thanked his fans and supporters for staying down with him while he was incarcerated. Currently, he still faces a felony charge of first-degree criminal sexual conduct in South Carolina — a charge that could give him up to 30 years in prison.

Prior to “Last Day In,” Kodak Black — while still in prison — released his third studio album Bill Isreal, a fairly short play that saw 11 cuts and assists from Gucci Mane, CBE, Jackboy, and Tory Lanez. That project followed the chart-topping Dying To Live, which made landfall in 2018.
