Fans mourn the passing of Double K of People Under the Stairs
After the rapper’s death was announced this morning, fans take to social media to honor Double K.
The hip hop community came together to mourn the loss of rapper Double K of People Under the Stairs. Hours after the news hit the Internet, DJ’s, rappers, and fans alike made sure he got the flowers he deserved.
On Sunday (Jan. 31), Twitter users from Los Angeles and beyond flooded their timelines with tributes to the late Michael Turner a.k.a Double K. Fans noted the accolades Double K achieved during his time as the other half of People Under the Stairs along with partner Christopher “Thes One” Portugal. Others also recognized the fact that he was a great emcee, and a great guy.
“Rest In Peace Double K,” Mello Music Group tweeted. “Saddened to hear about the loss of Double K this morning. People Under The Stairs were a major influence on us. Love and respect to his family and friends in this time of mourning.”
“RIP Double K of People Under The Stairs,” wrote one fan on Twitter. “One of my favorite hip hop groups of all time. Saw them once and never forgot that show since. Hands down one of the best hip hop shows I have seen. Was really bummed out I never got to see them again. His passing is really sad to hear.”
People Under the Stairs dropped their debut album The Next Step in 1998. For over two decades, both Double K and Thes One kept their underground rep intact while inspiring a new generation of artists and fans. They may not have worked with the most viral names in the rap game, but they did collaborate with numerous legends like Jurassic 5, Hieroglyphics, and the legendary George Clinton.
The duo released 15 albums including three compilations. PUTS remained active until 2019 when they dropped their final album Sincerely, the P. As of this report, Double K’s cause of death has not been revealed. Check out more fan reactions below.
