Back in November, Trevor Jackson gave fans a taste of his upcoming project by releasing his “Just Friends” single. Now, he’s back to deliver its official visual, and also announces the title of his forthcoming debut album, The Love Language. On the song, Trevor sings about relationships teetering between platonic and romantic:

Tell me the reason, yeah. We’re not lovers just friends. Don’t tell me that you can’t see it. I know we’re just friends but be honest./ You can lie to yourself if you wanna. Them skeletons all in your closet. Just give me the key to unlock it. Look at what we’ve been through, all we’ve been through. You had my back and I had you too./ You call me ventin’ I listen to you. And you understand when she trippin’ too.

The “Just Friends” video is inspired by the 2004 Oscar winning film, The Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind starring Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey, and is co-directed by himself and ARRAD. As someone who excels in both his acting and music career, Jackson makes sure to be very hands-on in the area where the two areas collide: music videos. In a previous interview, he details his involvement in the process. “I typically come up with the videos while I’m making the song, if I can’t see myself in the video then the song doesn’t really work so I kind of do in the same time,” he said.

“Just Friends” features a sample from the timeless R&B classic “Lovers and Friends” by Usher, Lil Jon, and Ludacris. In 2019, Trevor won the Soul Train Certified Award for his critically-acclaimed project, Rough Drafts Pt. 2. Including the fan favorites “Puddles” and “Tell You The Truth,” Rough Drafts Pt. 2 has received over 20 million streams across all streaming platforms since it’s release.
