Pop Smoke may not be with us anymore, but the New York native continues to live on through his posthumous music and, now, in films like Boogie.

On Tuesday (Jan. 19), the official trailer for Eddie Huang’s upcoming film Boogie dropped on Pop Smoke’s YouTube channel. In the trailer, we can see the lead character Alfred “Boogie” Chin go through his trials and tribulations of trying to focus on school, his girl, and defeating his rivals while aspiring to become a professional basketball player. Midway through, we can see Boogie face-off with the “Dior” rapper, who plays his rival, Monk.

Along with Pop, who was born Bashar Jackson, the film also stars Taylor Takahashi, Taylour Paige, Pamelyn Chee, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Alexa Mareka, Mike Moh, and Perry Yung. The movie’s soundtrack, which will drop via Victor Victor Worldwide and Republic Records, is set to feature brand new music from the late rapper. Eddie Huang, who’s the author of Fresh Off the Boat: A Memoir which inspired an ABC series baring the same name, told the New York Times about working with Pop Smoke before his untimely death last year.

“He gave me a thousand percent. They were tough 16-hour days, overnights, and he shot five overnights in a row,” Huang said. “Kids were coming on the bridge to watch us shoot the scenes. We would play Pop’s record. All our actors, the extras, the kids on the bridge watching us shoot scenes, everyone was doing the Woo dance. It was pretty special.”

Boogie is set to drop on March 5. However, it’s not the only upcoming film that will feature Pop Smoke. Back in April 2020, his manager Steven Victor confirmed that a documentary based on the late rapper’s life and music is in the works. Watch the trailer for Boogie below.
