It’s Election Day in Georgia and Barack Obama is encouraging everyone to get out and make their voices be heard.

On Tuesday (Jan. 5), Obama encouraged Georgia residents to get out to the polls and vote for Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff. “Georgia, this is it,” he tweeted. “Today is Election Day and your vote can help elect @ReverendWarnock and Jon @Ossoff to the U.S. Senate. Make your voice heard today and vote—either in person or by dropping off your mail-in ballot at a ballot drop box.”

The former president also tweeted the telephone number to the Georgia voter protection line, just in case anyone had any problems trying to vote. “If you have questions or run into any issues at your polling location, call the Georgia voter protection hotline at 1-888-730-5816,” he wrote.

On Monday (Jan. 4), Obama laid out the importance of the runoff Senate election in Georgia. If Warnock and Ossoff, who are both Democrats, win the race, the Senate will be 50-50 along party lines. Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will serve as a tie-breaker on any vote.

“We’re seeing how far some will go to retain power and threaten the fundamental principles of our democracy,” Obama tweeted. “But our democracy isn’t about any individual, even a president — it’s about you.”

Last week, Obama and singer John Legend appeared in an ad for Ossoff. Obama spoke about the stakes of the election as Legend’s music played in the background. “Now, America is counting on you again,” he said in the one-minute clip. “You can send Jon Ossoff to the Senate to beat this virus and rebuild our economy, to make sure everybody can afford health care, to carry the torch John Lewis passed to us with a new Voting Rights Act that secures equal justice for all. Georgia, you have the power. And now it’s time to vote.”
