Ashanti is feeling a lot better after spending the past few weeks battling the coronavirus.

On New Year’s Day (Jan. 1), the R&B singer hit up her Instagram timeline to update her fans on her well-being. In her post, Ashanti confirms that she has finally tested negative for the coronavirus and is officially COVID-free. The negative test results come over a week after she delivered a positive update on her health as well as the status of her parents, who also contracted the deadly disease. Now, Ashanti says that she and her family kicked off the New Year with their good health intact.

“Starting off the New Year Amazing and COVID-free!!!” Ashanti wrote in her post, “Got my negative results back two days ago! Happy New Year y’all! Let’s go 202WON. Thankugod!”

Ashanti’s negative results came back several weeks after she first tested positive on the night of her scheduled Verzuz battle with Keyshia Cole. Just a couple of hours before the battle was set to begin, the “Happy” singer was diagnosed with COVID-19, which put the entire show on pause.

“I’m OK and not in any pain,” Ashanti said soon after she tested positive. “I’m actually down to do the Verzuz from my house…we’re trying to figure it out.”

While Ashanti’s intentions were noble, the organizers of the battle decided it was best to reschedule the event. Nonetheless, the “Only U” songstress hopped on Instagram live with Keyshia Cole to talk about the battle that would’ve happened, and show love and support for each other during Ashanti’s tough time.

Fans have been yearning to watch the battle between the R&B goddesses for the past several weeks, but they’ll get their wish soon enough. The highly-anticipated Verzuz battle featuring Ashanti and Keyshia Cole is set to go down on Jan. 9.
