Young Thug has set the record straight on some controversial comments he made about JAY-Z. In an Instagram Story he uploaded Tuesday night (Dec. 29), the Atlanta mainstay clarified that he had been “talking too fast” on the “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast when he appeared to discredit Hov’s discography.

“Don’t have JAY-Z on me cause of this internet shit,” he wrote in the post. “I was talking to[o] fast but y’all know what I meant.”

Thugger received some backlash yesterday after his comments about JAY-Z went viral. Speaking with the podcast’s Gillie Da King and Wallo267 about why he would be a great Verzuz candidate, the So Much Fun rapper appeared to imply that he had more memorable hits than JAY-Z.

“When I perform, I got 30, 40 songs that the whole stadium gonna know,” Thug said during the episode. “JAY-Z ain’t got 30 songs like that… [that] the whole stadium finna sing.”

However, immediately after, Thug corrected himself by clarifying that he was speaking in general terms about his own hit list rather than singling out JAY’s discography.

“I’m just saying like… I know he do — he probably got 50 of them bitches,” Thug continued. “I’m not just literally saying him.”

Elsewhere during the episode, Thug also named Lil Wayne as his ideal Verzuz opponent.

“It would probably have to be like Wayne because you got to think… We got to talk about influence,” he explained. “We got to talk about everything. It’s not just about no rap. Everything falls behind that shit.”

Both Wayne and JAY-Z have been the subject of several hypothetical Verzuz mashups since the popular series began earlier this year. Most recently, 50 Cent argued that Weezy should go up against Drake because of their compatible styles and mentor-mentee relationship.
