Today marks the release of Brooklyn rapper, Smoove’L’s debut studio album, Ice Cups and Shootouts via Run Music/Interscope Records. The new project clocks in at 17 total tracks in length and includes guest appearances from Fleazi Bambino and Toosii. On the project’s second track “Get Bands,” Smoove delivers his signature flow:
Yeah, only one thing I know get bands. I don’t know about them but I know that I’ma get bands. I don’t play about my guys, n***a, free my mans. If you change around them hoes then you ain’t my mans. Hmm-hmm, hmm, hmm. These n****s don’t be authentic so I don’t vibe with ‘em. Can’t trust no bitch, that’s why I’m a whole side n***a, and my pocket change where my opp stash. Big bready on me, no cap, bet it make my opps mad.
“Ice Cups And Shootouts is my baby,” he writes in a press statement follow the official project release. The title of the body of work serves to represent both the good times and the tough ones. “Ice Cups is something that brings people together, parties, NY basketball games or just hanging on the block – celebration. Shootouts – just a reminder of being from the hood and having to watch your back. Even with good times come bad – grief.”
The aforementioned “4 The Fashion” follows a slew of singles including “Period,” “Turn Left Turn Right” and “Chrome No Heart.” Smoove’L first took off in 2019 with “New Apollos,” which swiftly gained traction in the NYC streets and was soon blasting through people’s speakers at functions across the city. Last January, he made his live debut at Barclays Center, performing to a crowd of thousands for Yams Day.
