Well, the rumors were true. On Friday morning (Dec. 18), Eminem surprise-released his second project of the year, Music To Be Murdered By: Side B. As reported by REVOLT, the January album’s companion project sees new features from DJ Premier, Ty Dolla $ign, Dr. Dre, Skylar Grey, Sly Pyper, MAJ and White Gold.
While Em never formally announced Side B, internet sleuths put together several clues pointing to today’s release. Rumors picked up this week after Eminem collaborator and producer Dem Jointz included the Side B cover art in an end-of-year Instagram post.
“Even Thru The Shit-Storm, Thank God For Another Successful Year!!” Jointz wrote at the time, including artwork from albums like 2 Chainz’s So Help Me God, SAINt JHN’s While The World Was Burning and Eminem’s Music To Be Murdered By: Side B.
Then, on Thursday (Dec. 16), producers Fred Wreck and Lonestarrmuzik, who have worked with Shady in the past, posted photos of Alfred Hitchcock — the inspiration and “host” of Music To Be Murdered By.
“‘The more successful the villain, the more successful the picture,’” Wreck quoted the late director.
Earlier in the month, there were also reports about Eminem shooting another music video with director Cole Bennett in Detroit’s 8 Mile area. Bennett and Em previously worked together on the clip for Music to Be Murdered By’s Juice WRLD-featuring cut, “Godzilla.”
KXNG Crooked, who recently had some thoughts on Eminem and Joe Budden’s feud, also acknowledged the rumors on Twitter. After Side B dropped, the former Slaughterhouse MC celebrated with fans, tweeting, “Dear Stans,” along with a GIF of himself dancing.
The best reactions, though, came from fans early Friday morning. After receiving their second surprise bundle of songs from Eminem this year, the Detroit native’s loyal supporters were understandably excited.
“Eminem is having fun making music again and that makes me happy,” one fan tweeted. “Em been through absolute hell to get to the place he’s at today and it’s beautiful to see him enjoying his craft. It don’t really matter what anyone thinks about the music, it’s a blessing he’s here to create it.”
Another fan posted a meme of the Pope holding up Em’s Side B.
