As the fourth quarter of 2020 comes to a close, we’ve been kept well fed with the abundance of music released left and right each week. It’s almost like eating some soul food that gives you the itis and when you wake up, you want more. With the outstanding efforts from the Griselda collective during these times, their talent and work ethic is nothing short of top-tier. It’s clear that Conway intends on pulling no punches, nor lining the updated version with throwaway cuts or filler efforts. True, some have been wondering whether lingering standouts were better suited for his upcoming Shady Records debut God Don’t Make Mistakes — but if we’ve learned anything throughout The Machine’s triumphant rise, it’s that his process deserves to be trusted. Today, he drops off the deluxe version to his latest album From King To A God.

The project’s announcement came with a clear intent that The Machine was not letting up. While revealing his frustration about not being included in the Lyricist of the Year category at the 2020 BET Hip Hop Awards, Conway posted a screenshot of Michael Jordan saying, “That was all I needed,” along with the caption, “Mood after seeing I was left off the lyricist of the year nominations.” The meme from ESPN’s The Last Dance has been all over social media since the documentary aired earlier this year, based around MJ saying the smallest of things would motivate him to step up a level during basketball games. Much like Jordan, Conway used what he felt was disrespect by working harder and coming back with even more energy on the music front lines.

Westside Gunn, Benny The Butcher, Conway and the rest of the Griselda collective has had their foots on necks repeatedly in recent times and it doesn’t seem like that won’t change any time soon. Peep the deluxe version of From King To A God below.
