Rowdy Rebel is a free man. The Bobby Shmurda collaborator and New York native was released from prison on Tuesday (Dec. 15) after completing his sentence, which stemmed his and Shmurda’s 2014 arrest. At the time, Rebel, Shmurda and 13 other GS9 affiliates were arrested by New York Police department officers. Rebel was charged with conspiracy, attempted murder, attempted assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.

Rebel pleaded guilty in exchange for a plea deal, in which he was sentenced to prison for six to seven years. The 29-year-old appeared in court for his scheduled parole hearing back in August.

On Twitter, fans congratulated Rebel on his release and celebrated his return home.

“Rowdy Rebel outta jail let’s fuckin gooooooo,” one person wrote.

“Welcome home, Rowdy Rebel!” another tweeted.

Shmurda also appeared in court for his parole hearing back in September; however, he was denied release. As reported by REVOLT, the judge didn’t give a reason for the denial, but said that the Brooklyn rapper would most likely remain behind bars for the remainder of his sentence, which ends in December 2021.

Prior to the hearing, Shmurda’s mother, Leslie Pollard, had been hopeful that her son would be granted parole.

“We [are] very confident that things will go well and as always we know God will see us through— he always does,” she said at the time.

Shmurda was arrested on several charges in 2014, including conspiracy to commit murder, reckless endangerment and drug and gun possession. The 26-year-old pleaded guilty to the charges and opted for a harsher prison sentence in solidarity with Rebel.

“They offered me five [years] and offered Rowdy 12,” Shmurda told Complex back in 2016. “They said the only way they’ll give him seven is if I took seven too. So, you know, I had to take one for the dawgs.”

Both Shmurda and Rebel were credited two years time served due to the time they spent waiting for their trials. In 2017, Shmurda was also given a four-year sentence, which he serves concurrently, for trying to smuggle a “sharp metal object” into Rikers Island. He’s currently serving out the remainder of his sentence at the New York Clinton Correctional Facility.
