We’re days away from watching Too $hort and E-40 duke it out in the last Verzuz battle of the year. Much like previous contenders, the two Bay Area legends will focus on playing the top 20 hits from their years-long careers, but don’t be confused, the rappers are still actively making music in the industry. In fact, they may just have some new music on the way.

In an interview with “The Breakfast Club,” the opponents teased a joint project with fellow California natives Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube. “If you wanna call us something, just call us Snoop, Cube, 40 and Short,” Short said. “We jumping on these calls talking ‘bout, ’I got a beat. Rap on this beat. Send me a beat.’ We was fucking around, just sending beats to each other, and it ended up being 25 fucking songs. We was like, ‘This shit sound good.’ So we kept doing it.”

The “Blow the Whistle” emcee clarified that their association of West Coast artists is “bigger than music” as they are about business as well. “We not a super-group, we an LLC. That’s what it is,” he said.

Despite a music showdown on Saturday (Dec.19), both 40 and Short acknowledged that their successful avoidance of any real rivalry is also a result of their ability to view life through a broad lens. “We would’ve fucked up the story of The Bay,” Too $hort said. “Just showing love. Real recognize real,” E-40 added.

The Bay Area stars’ upcoming Verzuz was announced days after Ashanti’s Coronavirus diagnosis delayed her highly-anticipated competition against Keyshia Cole. With the match postponed to Jan. 9, the news of a E-40 and Too Short battle came just in time. Now, fans can prepare to end this crazy year off by getting hyphy in the comfort of their own homes.
