Jammer and Jme join forces for “Ain’t The Same”
The Boy Better Know emcees take us back down memory lane for their latest.
Legendary grime collective Boy Better Know continues to deliver hard-hitting tunes to the masses in 2020. This go ‘round, it’s Jammer and Jme joining forces on the single “Ain’t The Same,” which sees the London duo reminding listeners of their music influence over production from Oneninenine:
“Been a long time, my brothers, them ah been around, been a long time, my n***as, them ah been around, spit a 16 bar, make an MC spin around 32 bar make a man sit down…/”
The visual comes courtesy of BKAS and mixes footage of the BBK emcees with their crew on road with old school shots of the artists alongside various peers during their early career days. Jammer can also be seen in his family’s legendary basement where classic grime clashes used to take place.
“Ain’t The Same” follows Jammer’s Distrant Drip EP, which saw five dope cuts for fans to enjoy during the still very-active quarantine. This year also saw a slew of loose singles from Jammer, including “The Jerk Man” with Biggaman, “Smoke,” “Rain,” “Chattins,” “Grime Boy” with SBK, “Believe” with Rinsa, and his Black The Ripper tribute “Hope Dealers.”
Meanwhile, Jme is presumably still sailing off the release of his late 2019 LP Grime MC, which saw 18 tracks and additional appearances from Big Zuu, Skepta, Shakka, P Money, Giggs, President T, Wiley, Merky Ace. The project was best known for initially being released through physical copies only – it later made its way to streaming services this past summer.
In a past interview with Red Bull, Jammer spoke on how newer subgenres like UK drill became successful thanks to grime’s evolution:
“One thing that was good about grime is that once people got into these places, and they started clashing each other, they were suddenly familiar with people from other areas, and it started to slow down the chance of bad things happening – it became a safe zone. That created a social group who started to have a lot more respect for each other.”
