Throughout November, RMR has been delivering short visuals that show him creating interesting remakes of classic cuts by Matchbox Twenty and Drake — the renditions were also said to be taken from the forthcoming project 4th Qtr Medley. Now, the Atlanta rising star finally closes out the journey with a short film that both brings the first two together while adding a third titled “Substitution For Love,” a flip of Goo Goo Dolls 1998 classic cut “Iris”:
“I can’t give up my world to touch you, even opposites in the end just might attract, but I don’t wanna miss you right now/
And with all your secrets, you can’t haunt, help me, I’ll keep my mouth shut, even though we made a promise that I won’t forget, we’ll substitute love for lies…/”
Continuing from his apparent therapy session with Amber Rose, RMR is seen entering into a smoke-filled room, singing from a microphone attached to the ceiling while his masked band of musicians — presumably his production team The Do Betters — play around him.
4th Qtr Medley follows RMR’s introductory EP DRUG DEALING IS A LOST ART, which was released back in June and boasted nine cuts with additional appearances from Westside Gunn, Future, Lil Baby, and Young Thug. That body of work’s crown jewel is RMR’s breakthrough single “RASCAL,” a parody remake of Rascal Flatts’ “Bless the Broken Road.” Currently, RMR is said to be working on his official debut album, expected to make landfall via his partnership with Warner and CMNTY RCRDS.
“He’s wildly talented, immensely creative, has a crystallized vision, and is making compelling music… That’s what we want at Warner. Anytime an artist isn’t afraid to break down barriers it’s good for culture.”
