While Americans await the results of the presidential election, Chris Brown is thinking further ahead. The “Go Crazy” vocalist urged fans to take care of their loved ones in the wake of the highly anticipated announcement.

“PLEASE YALL… after this election shit… protect ya families and friends,” he wrote in his Instagram Story. “Be smart and safe please… These folks done lost they damn mind.”

Brown’s concerns are understandable, especially considering the recent state of the country. Since George Floyd’s horrific killing in May, demonstrations have arised throughout the nation, and they have only persisted amid the election.

On Election night, as results started pouring in, anti-Trump protesters gathered in front of the White House with large signs that read “REMOVE TRUMP” and “TRUMP LIES ALL THE TIME.”

The following day (Nov. 4), protests erupted in Detroit, Chicago and New York City where clashes with police resulted in multiple arrests being made. In Portland, law enforcement declared riots and activated the Oregon National Guard.

Most of the aforementioned protests started as peaceful riots before transitioning to violent scenes of rioting and vandalism. Some were in support of Donald Trump’s call to stop counting votes, and others backed Biden’s request to move foward with the calculations. When the president-elect is announced, the opponents’ group of supporters may likely hit the streets in anger.

Major retailers, especially in New York, prepared for the potential civil unrest by boarding up their stores. NYPD also stationed officers throughout the city and planned to shut down parts of Manhattan in the event of post-election violence and destruction.

As of now, the victor of the presidential election hasn’t been revealed as votes in battleground states are still being counted, but Joe Biden — who has already received the most popular votes in U.S. history — is not only projected to be the winner, he believes he’ll come out of the election victorious.
