Keiajah “KJ” Brooks — a young activist who went viral after calling out members of the Kansas City Board of Police Commissioners — now says officers from the Kansas City Police Department are following her. Brooks made the harassment known on her Instagram, where she posted several videos of a police car driving nearby her apartment complex. She also said the car drove past her photoshoot and followed her while she was trunk-or-treating.

“I was sitting in my car today at 11:00 and [police car] 818 drove through my private apartment complex parking lot not once, not twice, but three times as I sat in my car to try to intimidate me,” she wrote. “There’s a public street that’s right there… You would not need to cut through here at all unless you live here.”

Brooks claimed the passengers of the car included a white female officer, a Black male officer and later on a white male officer

“Let me just preface that I do not suffer from any mental illnesses or ideations,” she added. “I have no intentions or plans of harming myself or anyone else.

The young woman also said she had received multiple calls from an unknown number and believes this is how Kansas City police officers have been tracking her.

“[Sorry] for the flood. but look how they did brother Fred Hampton,” she wrote. “[This] number has been calling me all day (6 times) TWICE when i was in atchison KS. TWICE when i was in mission KS. and TWICE here. and saying nothing. [If] you call it, there’s a long beep and silence. I’m pretty sure this is how KCPD has been tracking me.”

In a later post, Brooks assured followers that she will not be intimidated and has no plans of leaving the city.

“Let me make a distinction before I go on a social media detox until after the election. We walk by faith and not by sight round these parts,” she tweeted. “I’m not afraid of any threats, I’m simply making the general public aware. I’m not moving out of KC. I am heightening my security.”

Brooks went viral after Tuesday’s (Oct. 27) meeting for calling Board President Don Wagner an “out-of-touch and disconnected old white person with nothing but pure apathy seeping through the bulging veins of his paper-colored skin” and demanding Police Chief Rick Smith’s resignation.

“Fair warning, I’m not nice and I don’t seek to be respectable,” she began her address to the board. “I’m not asking y’all for anything because y’all can’t and won’t be both my savior and my oppressor. I don’t want reform. I want to turn this building into luxury low-cost housing. These would make some really nice apartments.”

Since her posts about being followed and harassed by Kansas City police, many have donated money to her CashApp to help her hire more security. See Brooks’ posts below.
