Chip might be one of the most strategic emcees in the game in regards to competition and timing. Earlier this month, the Tottenham emcee unveiled two tracks titled “Flowers” and “Killer MC,” both of which were aimed at South London star Stormzy. Since then, the world’s been waiting for a response from the Heavy Is The Head artist to no avail.

Not willing to stop his own momentum, Chip has returned with the hard-hitting cut “Ignite,” which features fellow UK rap/grime behemoths Jme and Dizzee Rascal. Produced by The FaNaTiX, the track also seems to act as a vessel for more multi-layered slander from Chip:

“Let man know from the get-go, third degree burns when I let go, fall to the floor when I let go, fall to the floor like techno, he’s alright, not the best though/

Clap on sight, takе the cheque no, them man are cool but who cares? Take no prisoners, let go…/”

“Ignite” also sees an accompanying music video that’s directed by Cash Motto and Luke Biggins, and shows the artists performing within various circles of fire, adding to the fiery nature of the single. Given the trio’s pedigree, it’s no surprise to see Chip, Jme, and Dizzee handle the instrumental and visual environment with little to no effort needed.

Back in March, Chip teamed up with Skepta and D-Block Europe’s own Young Adz for the album Insomnia, which saw 12 cuts and a single feature from Dirtbike LB. His last solo studio LP, Ten10, was released back in 2018, featuring a slew of dope collabs with Frisco, Maleek Berry, Kranium, Red Rat, Not3s, and more. Given the new music, it’s hopeful that a full length effort from the UK veteran lies somewhere in the near future.

As you wait, you can check out “Ignite” below.
