Earlier this month, Lyric Jones revealed that she would be unveiling her new album, titled Closer Than They Appear, which sees executive production from none other than fellow hip hop veteran and Little Brother member Phonte. Today, that release finally hits the surface, boasting nine beautiful cuts and assists from Little Brother, Vic Mensa, Sy Smith, Phil Beaudreau.
Closer Than They Appear was preceded by the Mensa-featured single “Show You How,” which is produced by H0wdy and Tomi Heilig and brings forth a positive, sexy atmosphere needed in the midst of the chaos that we are all currently experiencing as a country and community:
“Lemme takeover, let me show you all i need, you can thank Hova, this ain’t a cookie cutter love, but this cookie got dat butta love, what’s next, under the cover run, we da best, gеtting another one/
Both sweat, just blеssed me over with your tongue, simon says, just climb the bed, on that Jameson, showtime ahead, so let me chime in, and make my case, so you can touch me, tease me in the right place…/”
“Meeting Phonte and discovering that he was already a fan of my work and had been interested in working with me boosted my confidence and renewed my fervor for my music career. Making this album, Phonte helped me break free from the “female rapper” box I’ve been trying to break out of for years.”
In addition to Closer Than They Appear, this year also saw Lyric Jones blessing her fans with with the March EP Acquired Taste, a three-track release that saw production from Giallo Point and a single feature from Skyzoo. She also liberated a single “Clock Tic” back in May.
