If you thought The Weeknd was finished with his violent, hedonistic After Hours arc, think again. Today, the Canadian star unveils a new visual for the album cut “Too Late,” which he produced alongside Ricky Reed, DaHeala, and Illangelo. The track sees Abel in the now-infamous Vegas-based theme role, asking his girl to follow him into his life of never-ending debauchery:

“I let you down, I led you on, I never thought I’d be here without you, don’t let me drown inside your arms, bad thoughts inside my mind, when the darkness comes, you’re my light, baby/

My light, baby, my light when it’s dark, yeah, I’m too high, baby, too high, baby, ’cause I know right now, that I lost it, it’s way too late to save our souls, babe…/”

Directed by Cliqua, the visual also stars Ashley Smith, Kenzie Harr, who — following an apparent and thorough plastic surgery session — find a headless The Weeknd in the middle of the street, a clear call back to a previous clip. Things get weirder from there, to the point where the duo bring in artist Ken XY only to kill him and replace his head with the star of the show, leading to a sexual encounter toward the film’s end. It’s quite gruesome, to say the least.

“Too Late” follows the equally disturbing videos for “Heartless,” “Blinding Lights,” “Until I Bleed Out,” and “In Your Eyes.” Released in March, After Hours saw 14 cuts (not counting the three tracks added as part of a deluxe edition) and additional production assistance from Metro Boomin, Max Martin, Frank Dukes, Oscar Holter, and more. To the surprise of no one, the album proved to be on of the biggest selling releases of 2020, scoring 444,000 album equivalent units during its first week of release.
