Statik Selektah enlists Texan guitarist Gary Clark Jr. and established New York emcee’s Nas and Joey Bada$$ on “Keep It Moving,” the first collaborative single of his upcoming project, The Balancing Act. Over Selektah’s production, Joey Bada$$ comes in with a viscous flow:

“Now I won’t turn the other cheek, or walk away any time it’s beef. If it’s that, it’ll be your last shovel. I guarantee, I took a forty course of casualties, I’m war-ready. I study thirty-three strategies, so wipe the bullet. These .223s through your cavity, they’ll exit out the back of your mullet. Shoulda happened to pull this trigger, so how you figure, n***a? I rid the evidence and wash my sins off in the same river.”

Statik Selektah’s first official release as the primary artist since his eighth studio album, 8. In terms of music from the two rappers featured, Joey Bada$$ dropped off his 3-track package titled The Light Pack back in July, and Nas released King’s Disease in August. The latter project included features from Anderson .Paak, Foxy Brown, Lil Durk, Fivio Foreign, A$AP Ferg, and more.

In his episode of REVOLT’s Drink Champs, Nas told the story of the backlash his classic hit “If I Ruled The World” first received when it released:

“When we first put out the record, it was a white-label, so they didn’t know who was singing it. They didn’t know it was [Lauryn Hill] so they’re thinking, ‘Why is someone singing on your record, bro?’ I’m like, ‘Dog, that’s Whodini; the beat.’ It sounds good for radio, too, but I’m just saying, it’s hip hop so this is what we [are] doing. The way the thing was changing, radio was opening up to us… We had to do that to get to the next level… And then it’s Lauryn Hill but then… people weren’t ready for the transition.”
