Jacob Blake’s father recently revealed that Lil Wayne called his son while he was still in the hospital recovering after he was shot several times by a Kenosha, Wisconsin police officer.

During a recent interview with Dr. Oz, Jacob Blake Sr. revealed that the “Lollipop” emcee spoke to his son over the phone and he could barely contain his excitement.

“He called him and you would’ve swore [Jacob] was a little boy, man,” he said. “I promised I wouldn’t get emotional with him on the phone, but when he hung up the phone I couldn’t stop my tears. He said, ‘Dad, I almost choked up and ran across the room.’ I said, ‘Yeah, you would’ve done that until you realized that wasn’t going to work too well for you.’”

“And he said, ‘Yeah, but it felt like I could Dad. I felt like I could,’” Blake Sr. continued. “I said, ‘Well, that’s what it was all about. That’s why he called. We love you, dude.’”

“He stayed on the phone maybe 12 to 15 minutes with me and his mother after the phone call. He was in good spirits last night and it was good for all of us because it’s been tough,” he added.

Not only did Blake get a phone call from his favorite rap artist, he also received a nice gift. The No Ceilings emcee reportedly gifted Blake with a wheelchair accessible van.

On Aug. 23, Blake was shot multiple times as he attempted to enter a vehicle with his young children. The officers were initially called to the scene over a domestic incident. According to Attorney Benjamin Crump, Blake was trying to break up a physical dispute between two women.

Witnesses captured the encounter between Blake and the police on their cellphones. Video footage showed him struggling to get away from the officers before trying to get inside his car. Officer Rusten Sheskey grabbed Blake by the shirt and shot him at least seven times in the back.

He was recently released from the Milwaukee hospital and admitted into a Chicago rehab facility. It’s unclear how long he will have to stay in the center, but he is currently paralyzed from the waist down following the shooting.
