Mariah Carey says her 9-year-old son was bullied by a white supremacist
The singer says Moroccan was bullied by a white supremacist who he thought was his friend.
Mariah Carey recently opened up about her 9-year-old child’s recent encounter with bullying and racism.
In an interview with Andy Cohen on “Watch What Happens Live,” the “Always Be My Baby” singer says she is reading her memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” to her children to help them understand her experiences with racism.
“Certain chapters I’m reading to them that are helping to illustrate my encounters with racism, and how they can then have a greater understanding, and ultimately, a greater reservoir with which to deal with the situation itself,” she told Cohen.
She then revealed that Moroccan — who is one of two children she shares with Nick Cannon — was bullied by a white supremacist. ”By the way, Rocky just got bullied the other day by a white supremacist person [who] he thought was his friend. It’s like, insane. So, this is the world we live in.”
Carey then went into detail about how racism has “been a struggle for me since I was aware that there was such a thing as race.” She spoke to her daughter about how she was bullied by a group of girls when she was younger.
“I let her hear that,” she said. “And it was really sweet, she goes, ‘Mommy, those girls, they feel so bad now. I bet they wish they could be your friend.’ It was so insightful for a 9-year-old girl to be able to say that.”
The songstress has been very vocal about fighting against racial injustice and police brutality. Last month, she used her social media accounts to demand justice for Breonna Taylor, the 26-year-old Black woman who was fatally shot by Louisville police officers.
“It’s been six months since #BreonnaTaylor, a frontline medical worker was killed by police in a ‘no-knock’ raid targeting the WRONG apartment,” Carey captioned the post.
She continued, “Medical workers like her save lives every day — but police violence claims Black lives at nearly the same pace. Her killing hurts especially bad right now.
