After a weekend of treatment at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, President Donald Trump announced he’s being discharged from the hospital later today (Oct. 5).

“I will be leaving the great Walter Reed Medical Center today at 6:30 P.M,” he tweeted. “Feeling really good! Don’t be afraid of Covid[-19]. Don’t let it dominate your life. We have developed, under the Trump Administration, some really great drugs & knowledge. I feel better than I did 20 years ago!”

Trump announced he was diagnosed with Coronavirus on Thursday (Oct. 1) and headed to the hospital the following day.

At the time, White House physician Dr. Sean Conley revealed the president was taking aspirin, vitamin D, zinc, famotidine and melatonin and was “being evaluated by a team of experts” that would advise the president and First Lady on their next steps.

Yesterday (Oct. 4), Conley updated reporters on Trump’s recovery, noting he could possibly be released today.

“There are frequent ups and downs… particularly when a patient is being so closely watched 24 hours a day,” Conley said during a press conference. “If he continues to look and feel as well as he does today, our hope is that we can plan for a discharge as early as tomorrow to the White House where he can continue his treatment course.”

Then, in a surprising move, Trump briefly left the hospital to greet supporters from his motorcade. In a tweet to the critics who denounced his gesture, he tweeted, “It is reported that the Media is upset because I got into a secure vehicle to say thank you to the many fans and supporters who were standing outside of the hospital for many hours and even days to pay their respect to their president,” he penned in a tweet. “If I didn’t do it, media would say RUDE!!!
