Westside Gunn unleashes new album ‘Who Made The Sunshine’
The FLYGOD is on a prowl with his latest release.
Just two days after his 38th birthday (July 27), Griselda staple Westside Gunn took to social media to announce the release of his Shady Records debut album Who Made The Sunshine. If you thought it was impossible for him to apply any more pressure than he’s already done, you need to reevaluate some things. The Buffalo, NY rapper is out for blood this day in age and it would be somewhat absurd to question his work ethic in the studio. The “FLYGOD” made sure to drop off this album at the perfect time, in the midst of stellar Hip Hop releases to keep our attention locked in.
Unfortunately for the rap game, Gunn has announced his retirement and is standing on his word — but he’s not doing so without leaving with a bang.
Griselda has taken 2020 by storm solely based on their determination to reach their highest potential in every aspect. With Boldy James, Benny The Butcher, Conway The Machine, Billy and Armani Caesar on the same team, there’s only way the label can go — up. Earlier this year, Westside Gunn stated that this would be a fruitful year and he’s stood on that assertion with every drop. Fresh off his critically acclaimed EP Pray 4 Paris and his recently released Flygod Is An Awesome God 2 mixtape, Who Made The Sunshine serves as the rapper’s third release of the year.
In a lengthy Instagram post, WSG described exactly what the album means to him as well as the journey and the conviction he had in his artistry that lead him to this point:
“Everything I’ve done thus far has led up to this moment, when I said FLYGOD was a classic ppl didn’t see it at that moment, then I dropped Supreme Blientele and made ppl to start believing, then I dropped PRAY FOR PARIS and I knew I had my formula together and I was ready for my first major release album and now it’s officially here “WHO MADE THE SUNSHINE” every project has been painted diff and with purpose, I know soon I’ll be done rapping but I have to give u WSG on a diff level this project I swear is my best work to date and I know it’s great bc it took me a week to make and not 2 days lol… but this is what HIP HOP is ALL about I feel young on this Album and I can’t wait until I give u this offering, I promise u You never heard ANYTHING like this on @shadyrecords this is ALL BUFFALO”
