R&B veteran Mario just gifted his fans with a new out-of-this-world music video for his new song “Mars.” The track is the second single off of the upcoming project Closer To Mars, which is set to release later this month. In the new Mario and Sterling Hampton co-directed video, two star-crossed lovers passionately express their adoration for one another from the living room to another galaxy. In the song, he sings about exploring a limitless love:

“With you by my side we can cause some disruption, open the sky we go high like it’s nothing. Sure to cause an eruption while I’m going deep in. Now that you’re open to explore baby I got you.”

After nearly two decades in the game, Mario is still blessing the ears of R&B lovers today while also showing his growth by experimenting with different techniques in his vocals and visuals. In May of this year, he dropped his single “Closer,” which came paired with an animated visual.

In an interview with REVOLT in June, Mario expanded on the concept and meaning behind his upcoming Closer To Mars project:

My name means Mars in Latin: God of War, the planet, all that. Sonically, you hear the different vibes I like from alternative grungy R&B to island tribal vibes to trap futuristic vibes to more edgier R&B like “Closer.” I was thinking about the idea conceptually of where we are even before this pandemic. Talks of “oh what’s happening on earth? We have to get out of here. What’s the planet going to be like in 20 years?”

Prior to his single “Closer,” Mario delivered his fifth studio album “Dancing Shadows,” which was his first independent release under his New Citizen Music imprint. Before venturing into his journey as an independent artist, he was one of the premiere artists under the Clive Davis’ J Records, which ultimately folded into RCA Records back in 2011.
