A Black college student in Texas is now traumatized after campus police stormed into her dorm room in the middle of the night because a group of girls falsely accused her of a crime.

According to NBC News, Attorney Randall Kallinen said his client, Christin Evans, was asleep in her dorm at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas on the night of Sep. 14. At around 3 am, Evans woke up to campus police storming into her room with their guns and flashlights drawn.

Police came to Evans’ dorm after a mostly white group of 10 girls reported that she had threatened to stab someone with a pair of scissors. Three of the girls involved were Evans’ roommates. Her attorney is now demanding that the girls be expelled and charged.

“This could have been a Breonna Taylor circumstance,” Kallinen said, citing the deadly March shooting involving Louisville police officers and a 26-year-old Black EMT who was sleeping her home.

“These adults should be punished for ‘swatting’ and trying to get Christin falsely arrested and kicked out of school,” he added. Campus surveillance revealed that Evans did nothing wrong, but her family says they are still waiting for the school to take action against the girls.

On Monday (Sep. 28), the university president posted a statement to social media saying that the school “takes this matter very seriously” and it is under investigation.

“Filing a false report violates the SFA Code of Conduct and potentially violates the law as well,” President Scott Gordon said. He also wants people to withhold their judgment about the case until the investigation is concluded. “My heart goes out to the young woman who was an innocent victim in this matter. We will do all we can to support her and her family through this heinous ordeal.”

Evans has switched dorms and is continuing to take classes at the university.
