Wednesday (Sept. 23) has been a whirlwind in regard to the news cycle that’s consisted of Breonna Taylor case update after update since it was announced that Former Louisville Metro Police Department Detective Brett Hankison was charged with wanton endangerment in the first-degree from the shooting incident that led to Taylor’s death, while the other two cops involved; Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly and Detective Myles Cosgrove, walked free of any indictments.

Since this news broke, people not only in Louisville, but all over the country have voiced their frustrations about the fact none of the three cops were charged with killing Taylor at all. “What is most insulting is that the recommended charges aren’t even in response to the MURDER of Breonna Taylor, but to the POTENTIAL injury of other people in the apartment,” Yard Shahidi penned in a tweet. “I see the system won’t fight for you, so WE gotta fight for you,” even said on Twitter.

The sole man who now faces charges, Hankison, has since been jailed and bonded out on $15,000 bond.

People have been taking to the streets to react to the grand jury’s decision, as well. Not only have ring-wing militia groups marched through the Kentucky city, but counter-protests soon broke out after the charge announcement, too. Unfortunately, things eventually took a turn for the worse.

According to local Louisville news outlet WLKY, at least two officers have been shot during protests in the downtown area, and are now wounded. We don’t know their condition as of yet. “The shooting occurred before 8:30 p.m. around South Brook and East Broadway, according to initial reports from MetroSafe,” the outlet reported. A spokesperson for the LMPD confirmed this news.

This comes after footage of cops clashing with protesters began surfacing earlier in the day after the indictment news was revealed to the public.
