It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Lloyd in terms of music, but the new reason the legendary singer popped up on people’s radars today is worth talking about. Today, Lloyd dropped off a new song “They Don’t Care” paired with a lyric video. The track can be found on Voices For Change, Vol. 1, a new compilation album presented by EMPIRE dedicated to empowering listeners in the name of social justice.

“Our differences make us beautiful, not unequal,” Lloyd writes for the description of the new song. “I use my voice to spread love, to inspire enlightening conversations, and, as a father, to make this world a more compassionate place for my son and daughter.”

In “They Don’t Care,” he sings passionately about staying strong and unified:

“Right on with the flow here we go, we’re gearing up. My people tough, there ain’t no tearing us, and I know they will always fear me. Living the American Dream, so all I hear is murder.”

The 21-track conceptual project features music from Lloyd, Mozzy, PJ Morton, D Smoke, Rotimi, Rexx Life Raj, Audio Push, Sammie, Jackboy, and many more. The subject matters stretches from police brutality, to unity, to empowerment, and everything in between. When tuning in to the new video, it’s worth noting proceeds from the project and singles will be donated to the ACLU.

Back in 2018, Lloyd delivered his fifth studio LP Tru, which saw 11 tracks and features from Khujo Goodie, Curren$y, Sevyn Streeter, Rick Ross, long-time collaborator Lil Wayne, and more. More recently, Lloyd returned with a new single titled “Slow Wine Bass Line,” which features assistance from the legendary Teddy Riley. The song sampled Keith Sweat’s classic hit single “Right and a Wrong Way,” which Riley also produced.
